Philatelic Bureau,Dublin

I was in Dublin today and picked up the latest 2013 issues.

These are some pics of the General Post Office and Philatelic Shop.

image The General Post Office is in O’Connell Street. It was the Headquarters of the Irish Rebels during the week-long Easter Rising of 1916. The Irish Republic was proclaimed at the doors of the GPO and the bullet marks are still visible on the building.

image The Philatelic Shop and Museum is in an annexe on the Ground Floor. The Philatelic Bureau stocks all issues of Irish Stamps for exactly one year before they go off sale. The Shop is also the entrance to a small but interesting Museum. Not only does it have frames of all Irish Stamp issues, it has a video about the GPO during the Rising and some very interesting antique Post Office exhibits. It costs €2 to visit the Museum. It is aptly called “Letters,Lives and Liberty”.
