Why do I collect Irish Stamps?
The simplest reason is that I am Irish. I bought my first loose leaf album (Senator Medium) in October 1970 , I have specialised in the Irish Stamps since then. My 20th Century Collection now takes up EIGHT Senator Medium albums. And having given up collecting for over ten years before resuming in March 2012, I am still catching up on 21st Century issues. I guess I will need at least three more albums.
But Irish Stamps tell the story of Ireland. Not just the History but also the Culture, Sport, Literature, Music and much more besides. It is also about how Ireland has changed from an insular nation to a more international place with involvement in European and World affairs. Indeed the photograph showing 2013 issues, shows a set of stamps “Ireland:An Integrated Society” literally shows the changing face of the Irish Nation.
In a very real way the stamps of any nation shows a nations “Greatest Hits”. In Ireland, we have a lot of which we can be proud. Our postage stamps reflect this.
